THE CHURCH CLOCK  Many Barlborough residents noticed that for months the church clock was stuck at around ten minutes to six, and for some the absence of the regular striking of the time was disappointing. In June professional clock menders were called in from Derby, and they got it going again. For a week or so all seemed well, and for one neighbour at least, the sound of the strike of quarters and hours once again gave a welcome rhythm to the work of her gardening day. Sadly the repair was not permanent, and the clock and the strike both stopped.

UPDATE The Derby team returned and concluded that a fault with the strike mechanism was interfering with the workings of the clock. So the clock is now going again, but without the strike. A local team is now planning the necessary repair to restore the strike without stopping the clock. Watch this space!
